The Role of Periodontics

Posted .

If you’ve ever had any issues with your oral health that affected your gums, or other supporting structures in your teeth, then you’ve likely undergone some form of periodontic treatment. If that’s not the case, then we want to congratulate you on having great oral health!

However, it’s important to know about periodontics. This knowledge will help you avoid any serious oral health issues in the future.

What is it?
When you come in to see a dentist, you’re likely coming in due to concerns over gum disease. It’s also known as periodontal disease. Simply put, that means your gums are infected. This puts your teeth at risk of becoming infected, too.

So Drs. Rahman and Johnson handle treatment for gum disease. In addition, they will also work to make sure that the rest of your mouth is healthy. They will place dental implants as well.

When do I need it?
You’ll only need periodontal treatment if you have gum disease, or your dentist suspects you may be getting close to contracting it. You’ll also need it for anything to do with dental implants.

How do I prevent it?
Gum disease is a serious issue. It’s one that our team here at Lavista Park Family Dentistry in Tucker, Georgia, sees all too often. However, you can prevent it completely by practice great oral hygiene. This includes regular checkups with your dentist, where early signs of gum disease are easily spotted.
